#HowToFindAHusband Step Eleven- Defeating Your #FearOfCompetition

Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens. Ruth 2:8

The six reason #Lisa Firestone Ph.D., gives in her article, Why Am I Still Single? 8 Reasons People Often Stay #Single, is Fear of Competition. She states, “A lack of self-esteem often leads to fears of competing. It’s easy to put ourselves down in relation to others, especially when it comes to dating. When we meet someone we like, it’s all too easy to think, ‘He/she could do better’… We may feel unwilling to compete, particularly as we get older, and we start to have self-attacks like ‘Your time has passed, you’re too old for this.’”

Ruth had this mindset. She felt the other women were better. She was married for ten years and perhaps she reasoned her time had come and gone. She may have thought she should be grateful that her life was spared from the famine and she was able to work in the field. She could have told herself that she attempted to grab the brass ring that J. D. Salinger talks about in his book, The Catcher in the Rye, and it had eluded her.

But thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph, Boaz rewarded her and told her she was worthy and to stay in the competition. He told her, in essence, to reach for Salinger’s brass ring that symbolizes spiritual maturity and freedom. Boaz, who symbolized God, rewarded her because of her kindness toward her mother-in-law, her work ethic, and her faith in God.

God is not a respecter of person. If he did it for Ruth, for me at 39, he will give you your Boaz as well. Your job is to stay faithful, keep believing and reaching for the brass ring no matter how many times the carousel of life takes you around. I dare you to reach and put your trust in God!
