The fifth reason #Lisa Firestone Ph.D., gives in her article, Why Am I Still Single? 8 Reasons People Often Stay #Single, is Low Self-Esteem. She states, “We all possess ‘critical inner voices’ that tell us we are too fat, too ugly, too old or too different. When we listen to these ‘voices,’ we engage in behaviors that push people away. When we remain single, it is not for the reasons that we’re telling ourselves. Our lack of confidence leaves us giving off signals of not being open, creating a catch 22 in the realm of dating.”
Ruth didn’t believe she was a good catch, so her actions, behavior, and words, reinforced this belief system. She told herself that she wasn’t good enough. This became a self-fulfilling prophecy. The ageless words of Solomon ring true here: For as she thinks in her heart, so is she.
Even though Ruth told Boaz that his words put her at ease, it didn’t change her mind about her inner belief system. She still saw herself as lacking in some areas. Thank God for people like Naomi that see greatness, beauty, and ability in others and call it forth in their lives.
Let me stand in the gap today for individuals who feel they are lacking in some area. The Word says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. In spite of past experiences or belief systems. God says, “I make all things new.” You are not second class. You don’t have to go for leftovers.
Once you align yourself with the Word, say what God says about you, and believe, obey, and trust in him, you will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Not in the sweet bye and bye. You are his princess and he came that you might have life and have it more abundantly. I dare you to trust him!
