Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Genesis 32:28, KJV
Jacob’s name meant deceiver, but after his struggle, God changed it to Israel. His new name signified his repentance and God’s blessing upon him as a prince, a ruler in God’s kingdom.
After I received the Holy Spirit, a minister gave me the name Ruth. I wondered what this name change meant. In the Bible, Ruth left her family, was widowed, but chose to follow her mother-in-law’s God.
As time passed, I grew to understand that the favor that she eventually received, would be manifested in my life as well. One favor I received was a four-year scholarship to a private high school which allowed me to avoid poorly performing ghetto schools. I had to take two trains, one bus, and a trolley to get there, but it was worth it. Other favors I received were full scholarships that allowed me to graduate from a prestigious college and graduate school in Boston.
God’s will for you is to be his princess. As his child, he sees you as his daughter. By obeying and following his word, you too will have favor in every area of your life.
